INTRODUCTION The Texas Advance Directives Act ("TADA") allows for discontinuation of life-sustaining treatment ("LST") in individual cases if a physician determines that the treatment in question is medically inappropriate. (1) One of the provisions of the TADA's legally-sanctioned process is that either an ethics or a medical committee must review and affirm the physician's judgment of medical inappropriateness before cessation of LST. (2) The TADA neither specifies a preference for the type of review committee, nor the membership composition of either committee.
